Purrgatory

The judge of the in-between. Lion and tiger fused into one sun-maned face two meters wide, eyes half-closed like the verdict already came in, the tooth-grid wide as a gate. Purgatory, but it purrs — and you wait to find out whether the smile is mercy.

Imaginary Friends by tijo (2026), 150 × 120 cm acrylic and paint pen on linen. Four cartoon creature figures stand in a row against a dark violet ground beneath an enormous shadowy purple face with black almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, and a long white crescent smile that arcs across the top of the canvas. Left: a tall cobalt-blue ghost-shaped figure with a pink scribbled tuft of hair, hollow pale-blue ringed eyes and a black-and-white grid of teeth; in front of it a small golden horned figure with glowing yellow eyes, a red zigzag grin, scribbled glyph-covered body and a blue flame-shaped drop above its head. Centre: a red-and-black cyclops figure with a single ringed eye and a mouth of long white fangs, raising one hand with an orange pentagram on the palm; QUANTUM, ENCRYPTION HACKING and LIFE AFTER DEATH are written in pale paint pen across its body. Right: a turquoise-green figure with orange eyes, blue brows, a pink zigzag-tooth grin and pale rib marks down its lower body. Every surface is worked with dense scribbled mark-making in paint pen.

Impactual by tijo (2026), 300 × 150 cm, painting on canvas. A neo-expressionist panorama: at left a large purple-and-black beast in profile with a red-and-white eye set in a dark ring, a long jaw lined with white zigzag teeth, and an ochre-yellow slab across its chest, set against a cobalt-blue panel scrawled with pale glyphs. At center a black volcanic cone erupts in dense orange, yellow and coral scribble that spreads across the upper canvas in scratchy crayon lines. To the right, the word DIE is lettered three times in chalky pale strokes on a dark ground; beyond it a large cream moon ringed in warm pink and orange hangs above a small black spectacled creature perched on a horizontal wire. In the lower right, three round green flower-creatures with wide red grinning mouths and blue eyes stand on thin black stems in a field of green and magenta marks.
